April 2018 News and Notes

Spring is here!  Now hopefully the weather will stay spring-like…it’s been a rough winter and we all will be happy to put that behind us!  Here are some news and notes of what’s going on at HRC…

It’s time to go out and play on the clay!  Staff has been working hard getting everything ready and now it’s time to enjoy!  We are still working on windscreens, scoring towers, painting, etc., but the courts ARE OPEN!

Thanks to the members who came out to help nail down lines this Saturday.  They helped get things ready so everyone could enjoy all six courts being open right away.  Peggy, Perry, Matt, Gay, Rod and Linda…YOU ROCK!

Please welcome Lois Alexis to our tennis coaching family!  Formerly ranked the number one player in Grenada as a junior player and three time first team All-SWAC collegiate player, Lois has plenty of experience on court.  As a coach she has worked at YMCA programs in Baton Rouge, Nike Camps at University of Alabama and held a couple of college head coaching positions.  She will be teaching Cardio Tennis and several adult and junior clinics.  She is also available for private group and individual lessons.  We are blessed to have Lois as part of the HRC family!

The next session of youth tennis programs starts April 17th for six weeks.  If you or anyone you know is interested, please contact Dylan to reserve a spot!

Want to learn tennis or get back into it after a long absence?  Can’t beat this deal…six one-hour sessions, a tennis racquet and a t-shirt…all for just $40!!!  We sold out this session last year and it’s selling out quick already.  Spread the word, visit our website and register today!

Our core fitness classes continue to go strong.  We are happy to announce a couple of new classes coming up next month.  A new therapeutic yoga six week session starts Wednesday 4/18 at 11:15 and a Classic Yoga for Healthy Longevity six week session begins Monday 4/16 at 11:45. Yoga Therapist: Leslie Morrill. $5 per class for members and $7 for non-members.  A new series of Mindful Movement with Denise begins Friday 4/13 at 8:15am. $10/class or $46 for six weeks. Please contact Briana if you are interested in attending these classes.

Michael Miranda, former co-owner of Stretch Zone, is now at HRC!  Practitioner Assisted Stretching or Fascial Stretch Therapy is a quick, effective and long lasting solution for athletes and fitness enthusiasts.  It betters your circulation and blood flow, and is a tool for injury prevention. Michael uses a special table to use traction to decompress the joints and improve flexibility and release toxins.  Interested?  Try it out for free!  Michael has opened Monday afternoon as Demo Days and will take clients 2:45pm, 3:30pm, 4:15pm, and 5:00pm, but you MUST sign up ahead of time.  Contact Cindy  to reserve a spot.

The racquetball courts are coming alive on Tuesday and Thursday nights!  It’s free for members and $5 for nonmembers this month.  So spread the word and let the little blue ball fly Tuesday and Thursday nights at HRC!

The pro shop has been restocked with new racquets, shoes, apparel and accessories.  Check it out!  Dylan and Lois are also ready to restring your racquets for the outdoor clay season.  Spring has sprung and it’s time to get ready for your best tennis season yet!

We have been working hard on the facilities, but most of the focus recently was fixing things around the outdoor courts, repainting the deck, door and posts, and getting the ice machine working again.  If you noticed the big mulch pile by the end of the parking lot, that’s from clearing all the area between the lower clay courts and the upper clay courts.  We will be working on the rest of the clearing the end of this week.  Then sometime in April we will drag the rest of the cuttings down by the pond and mulch in place again but this time under the trees to nourish that area. Dottie also did some painting in the clubhouse’s men’s locker room and added some decorative racquets above the lockers.

On the LED upgrade/retrofit front, we did complete our outdoor LED lighting upgrade.  Next is the LED retrofit of all the lighting in the clubhouse locker rooms (in April), then in arena/fitness building, then the rest of the clubhouse.  The plan is to have it all complete by first day of summer.  The lighting levels should be the same or greater than you are enjoying now!  We also are installing smart thermostats in the fitness room and group fitness rooms.

Owners Chris and Cindy are taking their youngest daughter Lindsay on a spring break vacation this week, their first real vacation since purchasing the club back in 2015.  Dottie will also be out because she will be down at the Volvo Car Open in Charleston this week.  Dylan, Briana, Bobby and Lois will be here to keep things going, but please know that we will be running with half-staff and things might not be as efficient as usual.  We appreciate your patience with any inconveniences this week!

….thanks for being a part of the HRC family.  If you need anything or have any comments/questions, please don’t hesitate to ask any of our staff.  Keep warm, keep active and see you at the club!

Chris, Cindy and staff
