February News and Notes

Here we are in the dead of winter, but you wouldn’t know it by the weather!  Unfortunately it is also the thick of cold and flu season, which went through the HRC family all through February.  Hopefully we are all done with that and will be well rested for the rest of winter and early spring!

In February HRC is showing the love to our members by giving each member two free guest passes to use as you like.  Have family visiting? Bring them to the club.  Want to show a friend what HRC is all about?  Let’s show them why we love HRC!  To get your free pass, see Briana in the fitness center weekday mornings.

Next week starts our next session of youth tennis classes and adult Tennis 101.  We look forward to another great six weeks on the tennis courts!

SAVE THE DATE March 10th and 11th are our Pickle Ball March Madness socials at HRC.  Come and play or just watch the fun!  Two sessions to choose from…Friday March 10th 6-8pm or Saturday March 11th 9-11am.  Wear green and bring a pickle themed dish to share. Clinics, loaner paddles and balls will be available.  $5/member or $10/non-member

As usual, we have several projects going on!  And they are relatively big ones!  First of all Dottie and crew are doing the second phase of the kitchen remodeling.  You can see pictures of current and future looks of the kitchen on our social media pages.  We are looking forward to a nice floor, new cabinets and new stove and microwave…just in time for USTA league season!

Next week Rick and crew will be starting our stairs project.  The stairs going from the clubhouse up to the upper courts are the original ones from the 1980s.  They will be no longer by next week!  We are ripping them out and putting in a nice set of stairs going up there with a little landing to rest or view lower court action from halfway up.  Should be great!

In March the lower hard courts are going to come back to life!   We are putting a new surface on them that will keep one tennis court and create three dedicated pickle ball courts.  It should be a big improvement.  Then keep an eye out for Dottie’s dream project…erecting a bridge over the stream to the courts!

Last but certainly not least we are excited to announce another member of our HRC family, John Weinland.  John and his wife Barbara have been members for many years and are racquetball and tennis players.  John had a reputation of maintaining the best clay courts in WNC at Etowah Valley.  Well he now is going to be in charge of all of our clay courts here at HRC!

Speaking of which, John is already working on the courts now.  Our current plan is to have clay courts open by March 20th.  It might be a week earlier or later depending on weather, but we are looking forward to another fantastic outdoor season.  Look on social media as we get closer to see when our opening day party will be!

Whew!  Thanks again for being a part of HRC.  We keep working hard to make it a place you can be proud of.  If you need anything, would like to help with any projects, have suggestions or praise, please stop one of us or e-mail us and let us know!

Sincerely,

Chris, Cindy and the HRC Team
