This week’s instructor sportlight is shining brightly on Marian Soss. She has the distinction of teaching the first ever HRC Group Fitness classs when the new program opened in March 2015. Marian encourages her students to feel better physically and mentally while also helping them discover the joy of movement to music through a variety of exercises. Her SilverSneakers Classic teachings highlight the importance of tapping into increasing muscle strength, range of motion and designed to improve daily living.
Marian has also taught the Viniyoga style of Hatha Yoga for the past six years. She discovered yoga eighteen years ago in San Francisco after the birth of her first daughter. Yoga not only strengthened and aligned her back due to pain, but gave her newfound peace of mind. Yoga strengthens physically, mentally and spiritually and provides courage to do one’s very best.
Marian graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in drama at UNC Asheville. She received her YMCA National Fitness Certification in 2009 and taught senior fitness group exercise at Reuter YMCA in Asheville, NC for five years. She became a SilverSneakers Fitness instructor in 2011. Marian studied Senior Yoga Teacher Training and Advanced Studies taught by Stephanie Keach, Wendy Gilliland and Libby Hinsley at Asheville Yoga Center in 2011. Marian has also studied through Yoga Fit and is a registered Yoga Alliance Yoga Teacher (RYT 200).
Marian specializes in a gentle exercises composed of a love of movement, breathing techniques, supported poses with postural corrections and low impact training.
