January 2017 News and Notes

It’s a new year at HRC!  It seems like we packed more than 12 months’ worth of stuff into 2016.  Whew! Well we are looking forward to a great 2017!  Below are a few news & notes from January…

We just finished a major installation of HVAC (heating and cooling units) at the club last week.  Now all four racquetball courts have heating and cooling capabilities with an ultra-efficient mini-split system from our buddies at Horizon Heating and Air.  We also decided to replace the system in the fitness rooms and arena locker rooms with a unit that is 66% bigger than what was there.  The difference has been good so far.  Enjoy!

January will bring small fixes (besides the new HVAC) around the property since Rick and Dottie are out of town and Cindy and Chris are visiting the USTA National Training Center in Orlando and doing Tournament Director training in Pinehurst on two of the weekends and we lost a lot of working time with the recent snow.  We do plan on repainting the racquetball courts at the end of January.  If anybody would like to help with our painting party, let us know!

This week is the beginning of a new six week session of junior tennis programs and Adult Tennis 101.  If you or someone you know missed this week, they can still start next week since we have one make up date scheduled so that they could get their six classes in.

Our tennis socials this month are the return of ladies’ Afternoon Tea & Tennis and the men’s Beer & Tennis Member-Guest events.  The ladies play Sunday, January 22 12:30-2:30pm and the men play Saturday, January 21 from 5 to 7pm.  More info can be found on the website.  Sign up today!

The Go Red Racquetball tournament from last year has now been renamed to the Go Red WNC Racquetball Championships!  This is a nationally sanctioned event and will be February 3-5.  We are in need of volunteers to help with food and to put up posters.  We also have some sponsor opportunities.  If you can help in any way, please let Chris or Cindy know.
