March 2017 News and Notes

Whew, we got through that last blast of winter…now let’s bring on spring!  Our HRC crew has been working hard preparing the facilities for all the fun activities that spring brings.  We are all looking forward to outside activities and enjoying the beauty of spring season!

Our next social is going to be our Opening Day Celebration Saturday, March 25 from 6-8 pm.  It’s to celebrate the beginning of outdoor clay tennis season, but all members are welcome to come out and share in the fellowship.  Bring a potluck dish to share.  Courts will be open for play, the Wilson rep will be here with racquets to demo and take preorders for shoes, racquets, clothes and more…and we can all enjoy the new kitchen, stairs and other improvements!

Speaking of improvements, March is a busy month!  The new kitchen is in at the clubhouse and the stairs to the upper decks are done.  We are currently working on repainting the decks, putting up a Wall of Champions in the clubhouse, getting new equipment for the fitness center, introducing a new fitness class or two, and getting clay courts ready to play.  Next week we start with the cleaning up, crack fixing and surface installation at the lower outdoor hard courts.  HRC Lower Hard Court DesignIt will make a HUGE visual difference over there and give us more places to play!  In April we plan on working on the landscaping around the new stairs & deck and building a bridge over the stream to the lower hard courts.

Tennis leagues have started and morning playgroups are forming.  If you aren’t in one and want to be, please let staff know so we can get you in touch with the right coordinator.  We have 22 teams playing out of HRC plus a number of playgroups on the books this spring so every day will be happening at HRC!

Ever wanted to try Tai Chi?  We are blessed to have a great instructor Sharon Murnane who holds sessions Saturdays 10:45-11:45 am.  Tai Chi is typified by its slow movements meant to stimulate the body’s energy flow. Tai Chi will help improve fitness, flexibility, balance, strength, circulation and stress management.  It’s $5 for members and well worth it!  Sign up today by calling or talking with Briana.  The class is small and personalized!

Spring Break and Summer Tennis Camps for kids have been announced!  Spring break camps will be March 28-30 and April 18-20.  Both will be 1-5 pm each day.  $75/week or $30/day.  Summer Camps will be half day and full day these weeks:  June 19-23, June 26-30, July 17-21, and July 24-28.  More info is on our website and signup forms are available at the club.

Pickleball arrived at HRC!  We hosted a group interested in relocating here earlier this month and then we had our Pickleball March Madness social last week.  Both went well and look in the coming weeks for pickleball play times and clinics to be announced with the addition of the new pickleball courts being installed next week!

Oh, a special shout out to our local DOT.  Chris called them to see if they could sure up the shoulder where White Pines goes into 64/Brevard.  Not only did they do that on both sides, but also improved by the railroad tracks and past the beginning of the road into HRC!  We appreciate their timely response and doing more than asked!

Congrats to our HRC Youth Performance Elite (HYPE) players this month.  They all are progressing and every tournament we have entered, at least one member has come back with a trophy/award.  Jared made the WHHS Tennis team and is a major contributor to the team too. Keep up the great work guys and girls!

Our members rock!  The staff at HRC appreciate you being a part of the club.  This is OUR club…members, staff…even Dinho and Daisy!  It makes it easy to come to the club every day and work as hard as we do.  Thanks for that!

Now let’s enjoy spring!!!

Sincerely,

Chris, Cindy and the rest of the HRC staff family
