August 2018 News and Notes

Here is an update of what’s going on around the club right now…

TENNIS PLAYING OPPORTUNITIES

Summer tennis is starting to wind down, but there is a ton of tennis to be had if you want to play!  Playgroups, adult clinics, league play, a tournament and junior clinics are all available!

Playgroups are playing almost every day for those that just want some social tennis.  They are run by members.  If you are interested in getting involved, let us know!  Thanks to all our coordinators who make it happen!

If you want a group clinic with one of our great pros, there is always something going on for you!  Current programming is Monday Men’s Night Out 7-9pm; Tuesday Ladies’ Night Out 7-9pm; Wednesday Men’s Morning clinic 9-10am, Advanced Men’s Round Robin 6-8pm and Advanced Ladies Drill and Play 7-9pm; Thursday Ladies’ Morning Clinic 10-11 am, Tennis 201 7-8pm; and Friday Mixed Doubles Drill and Play 6-8 pm.  C’mon on out and have fun with the group!

Fall league play is going on with Combo Season.  Most teams are full, but let us know if you would like to play.  In the middle of the month we will be announcing our winter league play.  Keep an eye out for that and let us know if you want to play!

We host the 51st Annual Apple Open tennis tournament September 14-16.  It’s a USTA sanctioned tournament and will have players from out of state as well as local players.  Hopefully HRC players will come enjoy the competition and battle for their place on the Wall of Champions!

Junior tennis programs begin the week of September 3rd. This session will run for 6 weeks from 9/4 through 10/13. We will offer a make-up week for the week following the last class. Check the website for more information.  Class size is limited so make sure to sign up early!

Information for indoor contract season will come out by October 1st.  We will send e-mails out when it is available.  Last year’s contracts have first choice, then existing outdoor playgroups next, then new groups.  There are some exciting developments for this winter…stay tuned!

POOL

It’s been a great pool season!  School has started, but the pool will still stay open.  Last day to enjoy it is September 16th. Our new solar pool heater will be fully operational by the end of this week and we shall see what it can do as the air temperature falls.  Enjoy the pool during the last of the summer weather!

CLUB UPGRADES

We continue to upgrade the facilities…the list is never-ending!  Unfortunately this summer season hasn’t been as productive as we had planned.  Those week-long rain systems caused havoc in our schedules and work time. But we keep working hard to make HRC even better!

We have had to do a lot of repairs this season instead of the planned upgrades.  But beyond those, we have been clearing up around the stream, around the lower courts, and between the upper and lower courts.  This week we started around the upper courts and plan to finish that this holiday weekend.

Our pool had some issues we had to deal with and we had to bring a leak specialist company out here to do a full analysis so we could fix as many problems as possible.  That was done and we have fixed all but a small pinhole leak.  The solar heater installation has had issues but should be fully resolved and operational by the end of this week.

On the LED upgrade/retrofit front, next is the LED retrofit of all the lighting in the clubhouse locker rooms, then in arena/fitness building, then the rest of the clubhouse.  With all the other projects and repairs going on, this has been on hold until the fall.  The lighting levels should be the same or greater than you are enjoying now!  We also installed smart thermostats in the fitness room and group fitness rooms.

Our projects about to start include new steps from the lower parking lot to the clubhouse and using our new chipper and cleaning up the debris around the courts.  We are also in the planning stages of improvements to the arena to be done mid-September to October time-frame.

….thanks for being a part of the HRC family.  If you need anything or have any comments/questions, please don’t hesitate to ask any of our staff.  Enjoy the rest of summer, go have fun at the Apple Festival this weekend, keep active and see you at the club!

Sincerely,
Chris, Cindy and staff
