Protocols for Outdoor Tennis while Under Governmental Emergency Orders Effective 4/4/20

Adopt best practices in relation to hygiene, especially before and after playing, including but not limited to:

· Players should wash hands before and after a tennis session without exception (or use an alcohol gel if washing hands is not possible)

· Clean and wipe down your equipment, including racquets, water bottles, courtside benches (if used). Do not share racquets.

· For tennis balls, each player should have their own tennis ball(s) clearly marked with their own initials to ensure that they are the only person to touch that tennis ball with their hands. Each player would serve with their balls. For players not serving, other methods of “handling” a ball should be used such as lifting with a foot and racquet or scooping up from the ground with the racquet to give the ball back to the server.  In a doubles match, three cans could be used so everyone could have 2-3 balls assigned to them to be used when they are serving ONLY.

· Avoid touching your face with unwashed hands

· Always cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze or use the inside of your elbow.  Throw used tissues in the trash. Immediately wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not readily available, clean your hands with a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.

Use a tissue or racquet or similar when opening or closing gates.

Based on the Social Distancing Requirements, players “shall at all times maintain at least a six-foot distance between themselves and any other individual.” If you are not confident that you can adhere to the social distancing guidance when playing doubles, you should only play singles.
