Late August 2019 HRC News and Notes

Summer has been great and we are getting a taste of fall now.  It’s a great time to be active in and around the club!  Here is what is going on at HRC right now…

TENNIS:  Tennis Pros, Junior Tennis, TryTennis, Apple Open, September Social, Pro Shop Corner

Tennis Pros.  This summer you have seen some new faces around HRC tennis courts.  Bastian, Cre and Martin were here during summer camp season to help us out and did a great job.  We are excited to announce that Cre and Bastian are here now full time to help on and off court!  Bastian is available for adult and junior lessons, will be working front desk and helping with the pool as well as teaching in the Junior Tennis Academy programs.  He is from Chile and just finished his college career playing #1 singles and #2 doubles for Jackson State University.  Cre is a product of the junior tennis programs here in WNC.  He was #2 in the state in Boys 18 as a junior.  Currently Lois and he are ranked #2 in the South in Mixed Open Doubles.  “I look forward to my time here as Adult Programs Manager and would love nothing more than to see you on the courts, and help you improve your games by whatever means necessary!”  Cre is also available for team clinics, individual lessons and will be teaching in the JTA programs.

Junior Tennis.  Our next Junior Tennis Academy session starts September 3-October 19th. This is a six week session with a seventh week as a make-up week for missed sessions. Kids are put into groups based on age and ability; there is a class for everyone! Each session sign up also comes with a 30 min private lesson with a coach of the player’s choice.

Our HYPE Blue sessions (Mondays and Wednesdays 4-6) and HYPE Black sessions (Tuesdays and Thursdays 5-7) are year-round sessions which are currently happening right now. These high performance group classes are for our prospective and current tournament players.

CLUB UPGRADES

This summer was so busy, we planned on a number of upgrades, but had no time to do them.  Most of our efforts were spent in repairs and maintenance of the property.  We have some big plans for the fall though!

On the LED upgrade/retrofit front, we have installed the new lighting in the men’s and women’s locker room in the clubhouse.  The rec room/racquetball area is our next and final phase of the project!  The lighting levels should be the same or greater than you are enjoying now!

We have several other big projects in the pipeline.  Our contractor is supposed to do a bunch of earthwork on the area between the upper and lower clay courts and by court 6 around the end of September.  He will reshape that hillside so that we can start landscaping and putting in utilities to the upper courts.  Other projects include working on the pond courts and working on the indoor courts to get it ready for the indoor season.

….thanks for being a part of the HRC family.  If you need anything or have any comments/questions, please don’t hesitate to ask any of our staff.  It’s a busy time at the club.  Be sure to take advantage of it!  Let’s all keep active and see you at the club!

Sincerely,
Chris, Cindy and staff
